27th Event

All bets on a tablet, I guess. I'd love it in a way if it was something else.

Yeah I think it's going to be a tablet as well. Hopefully it has a keyboard or some efficient way of typing. I'm in the market for a new laptop, something with FireWire in it, but I'm holding my breath until this event. Then I will see whether I'm ready to get a new machine or not.

Jerry that works like magic. Hahahaha. Truthfully if it has multitouch where I can grab several Logic sliders at the same time and move them up and down, then I would be pretty much be set when it comes to recording. A stylus would be great if I have a need for drawing things. Something like what Wacom has with its Centiq line but with multitouch as well. Combine that all in a laptop form factor and I'll be more than happy to spend my money on it.

iPad, sounds like a feminine product and on top of that I don't really find it that impressive. The hardware isn't bad, but I'm not sure I'm loving the iPhone OS instead of having a full blown Mac OS on there. Am I the only person here who is underwhelmed by this release?

There are several issues at work here with the macsipad. First off, no camera. WTF?! no video chat, no snap a photo of yourself, no video. Next up. No multi-tasking, pretty self-explainatory. No way to get information on it other than using another computer to do it. If I want to load a document from a friend's ipad, how would I do that? oh, right, we would have to email it to each other. Rather than just say adding a USB slot or SD slot. No HD video output. Steve wants the tablet to be better than the laptop and phone on the web, and then doesn't give us flash...Hello?! There is no way to just write on the screen or draw diagrams on the screen; I remember a cool little program OS X had where you could use your tablet to write on the screen and it would type it out for you (ink I believe it was called), where is that technology on this thing? I guess we will see what hackers do with it, but for now, eh...

Now, some of my recommendations and some of my likes.

Macbook Air can use any Mac's CD drive and can browse another Macs files on the network. Sounds like a good functionality to have on the ipad.

iWork lite looks decent enough for a quick fix, but no office is gonna hurt some people.

The book reader looks great, but the glossy and bright screen may strain the eyes.

Video is nice, but we are back to the old 4:3 ratio.

Give me an app called "vault" that will allow me to place files and store files so that I can add them from a computer on the net or for a computer to browse my ipad's HD. iDisk will be a stop gap for me, but is not as clean.

This thing could really be nice if Apple were to pull their heads out of their ass a little on this one.

This device is absolutely fantastic for my mom. It is great for a person who consumes content rather than creates it. Just like the iPhone it does a great job of reading things, eMail, Facebook. Blah blah blah. For people who create content however, this is just not gonna do it. Had they released a 13" that has multi-touch and stylus support, running a full blown OS X. I would have been ALL OVER THAT. Even without the keyboard I would use it. For mixing my music, doing artwork and such. If they keyboard is refined well enough I might even use it for my programming habits. Right now the iPad (terrible name) is a great consumer device. That's kind of about it. For something so cheap I could see myself using it as a web browser in front of when I'm watching TV. For a computer replacement? No way!

New World vs Old World...

Right now it's geared to consuming, which is fine. I think creative stuff comes later. It's just version 1.0.

I think I'm going to get one. If I can get my arse in gear, I'm going to try to tap my wife's mind ad write some educational games for it.

Right now I see it as the device you have on the coffee table that you pick up to find out who that actress is in the movie you're watching, and what the hell else she's been in. And check google images if she's hot and maybe got her boobs out once ;)
